HomeLights History

HomeLights Group started out in China in 2007 as a research laboratory for innovative lighting solutions. Initially a team of two (one engineer and one business developer), the team gradually grew to 25 people dedicated to lighting and LED technology. HomeLights Research Asia (HLR) was born in 2008.

HomeLights SAS was founded shortly after HomeLights Research Asia in order to leverage the tremendous distribution opportunities in Europe. The management team of the company has extensive experience both in the European retail market and the financial world.

This double expertise has allowed us to grow our sales faster than any of our competitors in our major markets, gaining market share over well established players.

In 2010 HomeLights Manufacturing was set up as a joint venture between HomeLights, a leading CFL manufacturer and a Shanghai university lab. The expertise of these three parties has helped grow the factory into one of the most advanced LED research and production facilities in China.

HomeLights Today

Today the HomeLights Group is still comprised of these three entities:

  • HL Research Asia for product and marketing strategy;
  • HLFR for promotion and distributor support.
  • HL Manufacturing for prototyping and production.

The HomeLights brand is present in most major markets in Europe and Asia. Over 50 employees focus on product development, marketing and distributor support in Asia and Europe. Another 150 people work in our production facilities to create and produce the best LEDs for the best price.

These tangible assets are unique in the LED world where most players focus either on production or distribution, but rarely on both ends of the value chain.

HomeLights Group has a clear objective: become the third largest LED lighting brand in Europe after Philips and Osram in 2012.

Our goal for 2012 is also to be present on all five continents and expand the reach of the HomeLights brand.

To achieve this objective, HomeLights Group aims to have products listed with four of the top ten retailers in every European market by 2011.

The market of the domestic LED, which is the only alternative lighting source to the fluorescent-compact, is an emerging market which will grow fast due to the planned withdrawal of incandescent sources as part of the application of the European directive; the first ones existing on the distribution shelves will be the first ones to take advantage of the rise in consumption and acquire some significant market shares. The consumer is going to see the change from a standard, commonplace product (no difference in the results of incandescent sources of different brands) to a technological product likely to have very different results in one brand compared to another. All elements of the marketing of HiTech products find their legitimacy in this new world where the degree of customer satisfaction is going to be able to be linked to a brand.

Whether they are food specialists, non-food stores, DIY stores or lighting specialists, some of HomeLights’ customers act more like partners than clients. This allows HomeLights to field-test the latest products and point of sale marketing techniques on a scale unmatched by 99% of the HomeLights competitors.

 

Hotels/Restaurants

Since the start of the HomeLights project, the Group has actively pursued partnerships with the hotel, restaurant and food & beverage industry in general. This industry is a very heavy user of lighting and is the ideal testing field for all innovations in the lighting segment. HomeLights is proud to have partnerships and conducted some tests with Accor Group, Ritz Carlton, Disney group and many other well-known names. The outcome of this partnership is a better understanding of quality requirements as well as feedback on HomeLights' latest innovations.

The value chain in LED lighting, like most electronic industries targeting consumers, contains many technology levels. In Europe, Asia and the United States, HomeLights Group is proud to partner with the best actors in this value chain. From transformers and dimmers (Legrand), to LED chips (Bridegelux) or optical solutions (Gaggione), HomeLights cultivates key technological partnerships that are leveraged in HomeLights Research Asia and HomeLights Manufacturing.

Our research center in Nantes (France) in partnership with leading universities and RCA Nova allows us to develop new technologies and patent them to protect the interest of our customers worldwide.
